Tybee Post Theatre
In Progress…
Built in 1930 as a movie house for soldiers stationed at Fort Screven, the Tybee Post Theatre was one of the first venues in Georgia equipped to show sound films. After going dark in the mid-1960s, the building stood vacant for nearly 30 years before the Friends of the Tybee Theater stepped in to save it from demolition and restore it as a performing arts venue. Today it is the only entertainment venue on the island.
SHAH is working with the Friends of the Tybee Theater to expand the facility, adding multipurpose spaces, dressing rooms, and back of house support to better serve the range of programming the theatre now hosts. The work is currently in design.
