Mother Trinity CME Church
In Progress…
Mother Trinity C.M.E. is a mid-1800s sanctuary and documented African American Civil Rights site in Augusta. The building has been vacant for years, and a deteriorated roof has allowed significant water intrusion into the interior. SHAH is leading the full restoration in partnership with the Augusta Canal Authority, with funding from the National Park Service. The scope includes existing conditions survey, structural assessment, a phased restoration master plan, construction documents, and construction administration. All work is governed by the Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitation and subject to NPS and Georgia SHPO review and approval.

The Restoration of Mother Trinity Church
902 Eighth Street sits in a part of Augusta that most people pass through without stopping. The building there, a red brick sanctuary with Gothic arched windows and twin corner spires, has been empty long enough that the roof has started to let the sky in. Inside, you can still see the curved balcony rail, the plaster ceiling, the remnants of a room that was built to hold something important.
